Carl Owens said owning his own business is a longtime dream. But, he also realized the road to entrepreneurship can be fraught with pitfalls and snares that can trip up even the most experienced manager.
The first check she ever received came in 1961 – it was made out to Wanda ‘Flower.’ While she wouldn’t have called it an “omen” at the time, the misprint does ring true for Wanda Fowler today as owner and operator of Betty’s Flowers at 315 E. Lantrip St.

Entrepreneurs Linda Lawless and Teresa Crisler said it has been a long time coming. It was a dream born on a paper dinner napkin while they were eating at a local restaurant.
O & D Manufacturing, Inc. has been in operation since 1965. In 1976, Lewis Orms nervously decided to take a leap of faith and quit his job with Texas Eastman after 17 years to help his Dad and brothers with a machine shop business they had been operating. In the beginning, they operated out of a 16’ x 20’ garage they converted into a shop.
